kevin love

kevin love tops the trends this evening for his outstanding performance tonight. The Minnesota Timberwolves took on the New York Nick tonight, winning 112-103. kevin love gets the spotlight due to his outstanding 30-30 game--the first one to be had in the NBA in 28 years. Love had 31 rebounds and scored 31 points. The last time this feat of epic proportions was accomplished was in 1982, by Moses Malone.

Another top trend tonight was blackfriday 2010 (apparently today's Googlers seemed to struggle putting a space between black and friday, even though related searches featured the space--interesting side note). Black Friday is fast approaching, and will fall on November 26th this year.

Finally, an honorable mention (mainly because I'm personally excited about this) is meet the fockers. I'm a big fan of the original "Meet the Parents"--the original and the sequel are both hilarious. Thus, I was happy to find out that "Little Fockers," the third movie in the series, will be released on the 22nd of December this year. Hope you all enjoy the trailer--it'll be funnier for those who have seen the first two movies.

thursday night football

Yes, I was just as surprised as you were when I checked my fantasy football roster only to realize that I hadn't set it yet... and there was a game tonight. thursday night football tops the trends this evening as the Atlanta Falcons take on the Baltimore Ravens. The game just wrapped up, with the Falcons taking down the Ravens, 26-21.

The game was hosted by the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan had some impressive stats, coming up with 316 passing yards, totaling three touchdowns. Notable related trends in the top 10 were ravens vs falcons and atlanta falcons.

dave niehaus

Sadly, dave niehaus tops the trends this evening, starting up around five hours ago. Niehaus, aged 75, was the commentator and sportscaster for the Seattle Mariners baseball team from 1977 through their current season in 2010. The voice of the Mariners passed away this evening from a heart attack.

Known for his quote of "My, oh my!," Niehaus was one of the first commentators to coin the nickname A-Rod for professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez. During his time as sportscaster, Niehaus broadcasted over 5,000 games for the Mariners. Without a doubt, Niehaus is known as one of the most memorable sportscasters in major league baseball history.

For those interested in hearing what has come to be known as the voice of the Mariners during their 1995 win fo the AL Division Series, check out this clip here.

On a lighter note, the 44th Annual Country Music Association Awards were held tonight. This drove two interesting searches to the top of the trend lists, reba mcentire and how old is loretta lynn (I got a kick out of the second one).

A related search was if i were a boy, which was the chart performed by McEntire this evening--an interesting pick for the CMAs, since the song was originally performed as an R&B chart by Beyonce. However, the most likely cause for Reba's jump to the top was her disappointment in some of the nominations at the CMAs--mainly that of Entertainer of the Year. The nominations for this award have been a bit controversial, as many of the more veteran entertainers were left out in place of newer faces.

Loretta Lynn jumped to the top following a tribute to her this evening, sung by Sheryl Crow and Miranda Lambert. At the end of the performance, Lynn joined the two younger faces in her own tribute. When a trend asks a question, I aim to deliver--Mrs. Lynn is aged 76.

marine corps birthday

Well, title should be pretty self-explanatory today--it's the United States Marine Corps 235th Birthday!

The United States Marines were founded on the 10th of November, 1775. Their original incarnation was as the "Continental Marines." The Second Continental Congress brought about the formation of the Continental Marines, and thus the birth of what is now the USMC.

For those who know the Marine Corp Song (the Marines' hymn--which was written during the Civil War), you'll know the famous words of "to the shores of Tripoli." It was in this war that the shores of Tripoli were invaded, and the piece of history was immortalized in the Hymn. Some of the most famous military actions of the Marines date back to the First Barbary War, in the early 1800s. Another well known military action of the Marines is forever immortalized in the famous picture of the Invasion of Iwo Jima, which features five Marines and one Navy Corpsman.

Unlike any other branch of the United States Armed Forces, the Marines are administered by the Secretary of another branch--the Navy. While they have separate chief officers (the Chief of Naval Operations, the Commandant of the Marine Corps), both report to the Secretary of the Navy.

Another top trend (actually above marine corps birthday and usmc birthday) was that of bebe winans. BeBe Winans is a prominent gospel and R&B singer. His rise up the trend chart seems to stem from his appearance on the Howard Stern show last night while he was doing promotional work for his new station on Sirius Radio. It would appear that Stern was harassing Winans, trying to push him to go on a date with Robin Quivers, who is Stern's co-host.

missile launch california

No doubt many of you have already heard about this mysterious missile launch off of the coast of California today. "missile launch california" and "mystery missile" topped the trends today, starting around five hours ago.

No one really seems to know where this missile came from--the Navy had no idea, nor did the Air Force... and the Pentagon was essentially clueless. Though there have been many suggestions, some as rash as suggesting that it was a Chinese submarine, two of them seem more likely than not. Firstly, that the U.S. Military was flexing its muscles while the President is overseas in India by firing off an ICBM--proving our ability to strike a target that could do him harm. Though, again, the military is denying this.

Another possibility is that it was simply a jet, but having watched other videos and seen other pictures of this, that's a huge con trail, so I couldn't really imagine a jet making something that big in the sky at dusk. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

What do you think it was?

seth rogen engaged

Was about to go to bed tonight when I checked in on the trends. Just a few hours ago "seth rogen engaged" shot up past "wade phillips fired." Now, I'm not too big into pop culture, and I struggle to put even some of the most famous names of celebrities with faces--but as a college guy, thoughts of beer-bellied, curly haired, bearded men come to mind when you mention "Seth Rogen."

Rogen mentioned his recent engagement last night on "Conan"-- Conan O'Brien's new evening show on TBS. I'm a huge Conan fan, so it's good to see him back, beard and all. Rogen, known for his roles in films like "The 40 Year Old Virgin," "Superbad," and "Knocked Up" (I still haven't seen Pineapple Express), is engaged to Lauren Miller. Miller is also in the acting industry, and played a role in "Superbad" as well.

An interesting honorable mention was "puerile." I'll be honest, I had no idea what this word even meant. Merriam-Webster is glad to inform us that it is:

adjective
1. juvenile
2. childish, silly

I can't really discern why this is such a popular search. It's connected to everything, since it's such a simple words--comments about "Jackass 3D," the crudeness of recent political ads, and articles like this have driven it to the top of the lists.

wade phillips fired

So, today's hottest trend was "wade phillips fired."

Now, not everyone knows who Wade Phillips is, but those who do have seen this coming for awhile now. Wade Phillips was the coach of the Dallas Cowboys football team. His interest was high today as news of his release rolled in about six hours ago. This comes following one loss too many, with the current Dallas record being 1-7.

Phillips' replacement will be Jason Garrett (coming in third on Google's top trends). Garret, who graduated from Princeton, was also a Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys during the 1990s. Most recently, he has been the offensive coordinator and assistant coach for the Cowboys. Now, he'll be taking his term on an interim basis. According to Jerry Jones, Garrett has eight games to prove himself to Dallas, if he wants to make this a long term position.

Honorable mention today was "wheel of fortune." Of course, I was nervous that a childhood favorite show of mine (which was and still is watched daily in my grandmother's house) was being shut down, or that hosts were being swapped. No, the news was all good, and quite bizarre. Take a look for yourself:

What is this?

I'll keep it short and sweet--I whipped up this blog to keep myself a little more up to date on the world's on-goings, and to keep you in the loop too. I hope that, on a daily basis, to post a little tidbit of information on whatever Google's hottest search is for the day. Of course, this is always changing, but at the very least, I'll learn something new--and hopefully so will you.

Feel free to leave me comments about a hot topic I may have missed, and I may pull it up and write something about it later that day!
